NEW HOPE — Kole Richards and Justin Mayo combined for 28 points to power Crossville past New Hope 41-36 Friday night in a Class 3A, Area 14 basketball game.
Richards hit 4-of-9 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, which led all scorers. He pulled down eight rebounds.
Mayo collected 12 points and five rebounds for the Lions, who improved to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the Area 14 standings.
New Hope led 12-7 after a quarter, but Crossville rallied to grab a 23-22 lead at intermission.
The Lions were up 37-32 at the final rest stop.
Each team scored only four points in the fourth period.
Brad Smothers added seven points for Crossville. Mitchell Fountain had four and John Williamson two.
Williamson dished out four assists.
Dylan Payne’s eight points led New Hope. Both Tyler Gurley and Jake McCutcheon scored seven.
VARSITY GIRLS
Crossville 45, New Hope 33: The Lady Lions posted their first Area 14 win of the year, improving to 1-2 in the area standings and 7-5 overall.
Crossville outscored the Indians 18-2 in the fourth period to rally for the victory.
The Lady Lions trailed 13-7, 23-15 and 31-27 at the quarter breaks.
CHS shot 50 percent from the field in the second half after shooting only 20.8 percent in the first.
Emily Peek and Molly Williamson paced Crossville.
Peek finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots.
Williamson totaled 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
Darby Williamson scored five, Keelie Wilkes four and Jaycie Bobo, Hillary Harper and Krysta Mathews all two.
