Detectives of the Albertville and Boaz police departments worked together to capture a capital murder suspect on the lam at an Albertville motel on Friday night, authorities said.

Police arrested Clayton Antwain Shanklin, 24, of Parrish, at 9:45 p.m. Friday at the Royal Inn in Albertville.

Shanklin is wanted on charges of capital murder during commission of a robbery, capital murder during commission of a burglary and attempted murder, authorities said.

Authorities believe Shanklin was involved in an Oct. 12 home invasion robbery in Cordova, where a Walker County man was killed and his wife injured.

Boaz Chief Investigator Gary Stanfield, Albertville Chief Detective J.T. Cartee, Albertville Capt. Michael Rice, Albertville Capt. Chad Ginn and Boaz Sgt. Michael Abercrombie followed a number of leads and tips starting at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

“Those leads led us to the discovery of a girlfriend and vehicle they might be driving along with a tag number,” Stanfield said. “During the investigation, we learned they were in the process of moving into a new residence and had no definitive place to stay that night.

“We then began searching motels and located the vehicle, and inside the vehicle was the girlfriend. I questioned her and determined that Shanklin was inside room 26 at the Royal Inn.

“The girlfriend had the key and I opened the door and immediately confronted Shanklin.”

Police arrested Shanklin without incident. His girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter was inside the room at the time of the arrest.

Shanklin was transported to the Albertville Police Department.

Stanfield notified Walker County authorities, who traveled to Albertville to assume custody of the suspect.
