Hedgepeth records double-double

Published November 28, 2009

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Behind stingy half-court defense and a career-high 17 points from senior Keaton Belcher, the Belmont men’s basketball team defeated Alabama State 78-42 on Nov. 21.

It marked the fourth straight opponent of 20-plus wins from a year ago for the Bruins.

Belmont sophomore Mick Hedgepeth, a former Crossville star, recorded his second career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. He added four blocked shots.

Bruin freshman guard Kerron Johnson, of Madison Academy, had nine points and six rebounds.

Belmont (2-2) returns to action today at Eastern Illinois. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Hedgepeth has started all four games for the Bruins. He’s averaging 12.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 22.3 minutes per contest.

Hedgepeth is shooting 58.3 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.
