The Albertville Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for Citizen of the Year.
Nominations are due no later than Feb. 19.
For the past 50 years, the Chamber has given out the award, according to chamber president Jennifer Palmer.
Qualifications include the following:
• The candidate must be a resident of Albertville or immediate vicinity or have a business in or near Albertville.
• The candidate’s civic or business contribution must have had a direct bearing on the City of Albertville.
• The candidate must have made a significant contribution to the growth, prosperity and welfare of the area.
• Preference shall be given to candidates who function or have functioned as a part of the Albertville business community.
• Candidates who have had continued influence over the years will be favored over those with shorter terms of influence.
• Volunteer effort by a candidate will be favored over efforts made as part of a candidate’s vocation.
• Service to the Albertville Chamber of Commerce will be strongly favored.
Joan Horton, city president at Citizens Bank & Trust, was the 2008 winner.
“Typically it’s based on community service,” Palmer said.
The award is presented at the annual chamber banquet.
Palmer said the chamber usually gets between three to eight nominations a year.
