Sylvania outscored No. 4 Crossville 24-7 in the third period to seize command and pull away for a 69-42 triumph in Class 3A, Area 14 play Friday night at Sylvania.
The Lions fell to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the Area 14 standings.
Crossville led 10-9 after a quarter, but the Rams were in front 33-25 and 57-32 at the other breaks.
Brad Smothers scored 14 points and Justin Mayo 11 to lead the Lions. Smothers netted four 3-pointers.
Kole Richards had eight, Mitchell Fountain five and both Anthony Roque and Juan Chapina two.
Richards grabbed eight rebounds. John Williamson handed out five assists.
Crossville shot just 27.8 percent from the field in the second half. The Lions committed 21 turnovers.
Three Rams scored in double figures — Justin Everett 17, Donovan Dalton 11 and Leighton Wright 10.
Sylvania shot 51.1 percent for the game.
Crossville 53, Pisgah 49: Crossville outscored Pisgah 15-10 in the fourth period to rally for a victory over No. 7 Pisgah in its Area 14 opener Dec. 1 at Lion Gym.
Crossville won despite committing 29 turnovers.
Pisgah outscored CHS 19-2 in points off turnovers.
Roque paced the Lions, scoring a career-high 16 points. He was 5-of-6 from the field and grabbed five rebounds.
Both Smothers and Mayo scored 11. Richards closed with seven points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Smothers cleared five rebounds.
Williamson contributed five points and seven assists. Chapina scored two and Fountain one.
Brandon Sensor’s 12 points topped Pisgah.
Josh Perilias tossed in nine and Cory Wheeler eight.
Crossville sank 20-of-32 free throws, including 15-of-25 in the second half.
Pisgah was 5-of-12 from the foul line, including 3-of-10 in the final half.u
