SCOTTSBORO — The Boaz Pirates received 23 points from Collin Langley and 21 from Drew Phillips as they upended Scottsboro 75-58 Friday night.

Scottsboro led 18-16 after a quarter, but the Pirates outscored the Wildcats 25-9 in the second period to sail to a 41-27 advantage at the half.

Boaz’s cushion was 63-43 after three periods.

Joseph Wright tossed in nine points, Austin Harvey six and both Rob O’Neal and Colton Hunkeapillar five for the Pirates.

Bryant O’Donnell, Justin McCormick and Caleb Brown added two apiece.

Scottsboro’s Blake Paradise led all scorers with 26 points. Ben Word tossed in 10.

The Pirates (7-2) travel to Southside tonight at 7:30 for their Class 5A, Area 13 opener.

JUNIOR VARSITY BOYS

Boaz 68, Scottsboro 48: The Pirates led 15-12, 32-21 and 48-38 at the quarter breaks of Friday’s victory, which improved their record to 7-2.

Casey Wiggins scored 18 and Kyle Overstreet 16, pacing Boaz’s attack.

Will Amberson got eight, both Tyler Nabors and Justin Maroney seven and Andrew Thompson and Kody Burttram four each. Jon Nelson and Skylar Burns both scored two.

Boaz 43, Cherokee County 42: The Pirates squeaked past Cherokee County 43-42 on Nov. 30 at Centre.

Cherokee County was up 16-12 and 27-18 at the first-half rest stops. Boaz rallied for a 33-31 lead at the final stop.

Wiggins’ nine points topped Boaz. Both Overstreet and Amberson scored seven.

Nabors, Thompson, Burns and Burttram all closed with four points. Both Nelson and Maroney added two.
