Clay County scouting report: Herron is in his first season as head coach of the Panthers after succeeding the school’s legendary coach, Danny Horn.
Lincoln spoiled the sixth-ranked Panthers’ bid for a perfect season by beating them in the regular-season finale.
Among the players to watch for Clay County are J.D. Williams, Charles Sims, Breeman Ackles and Shawncey Simmons.
Clay County has won 22 of its last 24 games.
Horn-White Stadium is considered one of the toughest places to play among Alabama high schools.
The Panthers are 14-0 at home in first-round playoff games.
Clay County won state championships in 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2005.
The Panthers have posted 27 consecutive winning seasons.
This is the first meeting between Geraldine and Clay County.
