Bulldogs sweep varsity games from Lions

GERALDINE — Jake Richey came off the bench to shoot 7-of-8 from the field and finish with 15 points, leading Geraldine to a 51-43 victory over archrival Crossville on Friday night at Wendell Nix Gymnasium.

Richey grabbed six rebounds in the win, which allowed the Bulldogs to even their record at 4-4.

Class 3A, No. 9 Crossville fell to 5-4 on the year as it suffered its third consecutive loss.

Tyler Malone finished with 11 points and six steals for the Bulldogs. Matthew Cole had 10 points, three assists and two steals.

Ty Rooks contributed nine points and five boards for GHS. Wade Williams scored three, Clint Willoughby two and Daniel McClendon one.

The contest was tied 7-7 after a quarter, but the Bulldogs outscored CHS 19-9 in the second period to open up a 26-16 advantage.

The Lions rallied in the third period, outscoring the Dogs 16-8 to cut Geraldine’s lead to 34-32 at the final break.

Crossville committed 18 turnovers to Geraldine’s nine. The Dogs held a 12-2 edge in points off turnovers.

Geraldine overcame a poor effort at the free-throw line, as the Dogs hit just 9-of-22 attempts.

CHS went 8-of-12 from the foul line.

Justin Mayo powered the Lions with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Kole Richards closed with 11 points and six boards.

Brad Smothers scored six and Anthony Roque four. John Williamson made seven assists.

VARSITY GIRLS

Geraldine 52, Crossville 47: The host Lady Bulldogs outscored CHS 21-16 in the fourth period to extend their winning streak to five games.

Geraldine improved to 7-3 while Crossville dropped to 5-5. It was the Lady Lions’ fourth loss in a row.

Crossville led 14-11 after a quarter, but Geraldine pulled in front 24-22 at the half. It was knotted 31-31 at the final rest stop.

Geraldine forced 28 turnovers by CHS. The Lady Bulldogs had 20 steals, including five by Kristen White and four each by Raney Body, Paten Chavis and Caitlyn Roe.

White tossed in 16 points and both Roe and Alanna Smith 11 for the Lady Bulldogs. Roe sank three treys.

Ali Duke scored eight, Body four and Chavis two.

Both White and Duke cleared seven rebounds. White made three assists.

Darby Williamson led Crossville’s attack, scoring 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting beyond the arc.

Emily Peek racked up a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Jaycie Bobo, Hillary Harper and Macey Simpson all scored six. Keelie Wilkes contributed four and Molly Williamson three.

Simpson grabbed nine boards. Molly Williamson had eight assists and four steals. Darby Williamson made three steals.

From the free-throw line, Geraldine went 9-of-17 and Crossville 5-of-10.ሒ
