GUNTERSVILLE — A Guntersville Elementary School teacher, the entire fourth grade at Arab Elementary and a Guntersville contracting company were honored during an environmental fair last month.
The Sept. 27 event was sponsored by Marshall County People Against a Littered State (PALS) to raise awareness about the environmental effects of litter.
State Rep. Frank McDaniel presented awards to Betty Dudley, the Arab fourth grade and Whitaker Contracting during the fair.
• Dudley is a second grade teacher at Guntersville Elementary and earned an award in the Education category.
PALS officials said Dudley energized her school’s efforts in the Clean Campus campaign and in adopting a mile near the school.
She also had students design posters for the annual Alabama PALS Spring Cleanup.
• The fourth grade at Arab Elementary received an Education award as well.
PALS officials said all 210 students in the nine classes submitted an entry in the group’s anti-litter poster contest.
Dee Morrow accepted the award on the fourth grade’s behalf.
• Whitaker Contracting earned a Business and Industry award for its support of the PALS mission by sponsoring the PALS Harlem Ambassadors fundraiser and participating in the environmental fair.
PALS officials said the company had 4,000 orange bags made with the group’s logo, “Stash the Trash,” which were distributed throughout the state.
Whitaker employees also helped with this year’s Lake Guntersville Reservoir cleanup, helping collect 16 tons of trash from the shorelines and waterways.
Whitaker president David Reed accepted the award on behalf of the company.
