DeKalb County volunteer fire departments received a much needed gift from Sen. Lowell Barron recently.
Barron presented each of 25 volunteer fire departments and six rescue squads with a total of $80,000. Each fire department received $3,000 and volunteer rescue squads were given $1,000.
“Make no mistake: These are tough times,” Barron said. “The next 18 months are going to test our mettle. But we will deal with these times as we have before. We will get through this together.”
The funds will be used to purchase equipment and finance training sessions, Barron said.
