Box with Obama sticker vandalized

Published January 22, 2009

An Albertville woman said someone vandalized her mailbox, which had a campaign sticker for new President Barack Obama.

Adriana Ochoa, who lives on Medlock Road, said she found her mailbox had been knocked in a ditch Tuesday night — the day of Obama’s inauguration — or early Wednesday.

A California native, Ochoa has lived in Albertville since 2001.

“I’m a minority,” she said. “I’m Hispanic, and my brother (Javier Ochoa) is a veteran of two wars. He just got discharged honorably. He was shot in Iraq, and we are glad to have him back home.

“We don’t agree with the things that went on with (former President George W.) Bush.”

Ochoa said she thinks the vandalism was a result of the sticker, which has graced the mailbox since after he won the election in November.

“A lot of people were celebrating yesterday, but a lot of people were not happy, especially in Albertville, Alabama,” Ochoa, 25, said.
