Lion teams experience successful debuts

Published November 19, 2009

COLLINSVILLE — The Crossville basketball program opened its 2009-10 season Tuesday night by posting two victories over Collinsville in L.D. Dobbins Gymnasium.

Varsity boys

Crossville 49, Collinsville 42: Kole Richards posted a double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds to power the Lions.

Richards hit five 3-pointers.

Justin Mayo netted 10 points while John Williamson made five assists for Crossville, which led 13-6, 28-13 and 35-26 at the quarter breaks.

Sharrard Crawley’s 12 points topped Collinsville.

Varsity girls

Crossville 56, Collinsville 44: Emily Peek racked up a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds to power the Lady Lions.

Macey Simpson contributed 11 points and seven boards for Crossville.

Darby Williamson scored nine, Jaycie Bobo five, Hillary Harper four, Molly Williamson and Keelie Wilkes two each and Ashley Priest one.

Molly Williamson grabbed six rebounds.

“The first-game adrenaline rush got to us tonight. We made too many mistakes on both ends of the floor,” said Crossville head coach Jon Peppers.

“I thought we gave a lazy effort on defense, which will cost us games against teams in our area.

“We must be able to carry over what we do in practice to the games in order for us to be successful.”
