A Boaz man missing for more than a week was found dead Thursday morning, according to Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
Authorities discovered the body of 58-year-old Michael Winford Williams at 9:45 a.m., about a quarter-mile from where he was last seen Nov. 7 at 1640 Thornhill Road.
A family member reported him missing Nov. 10.
“He was found in a wooded area not previously searched by Sheriff’s Office investigators,” Entrekin said in a press release Thursday.
An official said Williams’ body was sitting in an upright position, almost leaning against a tree.
Foul play is not suspected at this point in the investigation, said Natalie Barton, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
Barton said the body was sent for an autopsy and authorities have not released the cause of death. Williams was reportedly diabetic.
Agencies involved in the search for Williams included Etowah County Sheriff’s Office investigators, reserves and dive team; members of Mountainboro, Sand Valley, Egypt and Ivalee volunteer fire departments; Rainbow City Fire Department; Etowah County Rescue Squad; Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency; Etowah 9-1-1; Rural/Metro Ambulance Service; and the American Red Cross.
