ONEONTA — Guntersville took control in the second quarter and coasted to a 66-36 rout of Vinemont on Monday in the opening round of the Oneonta Holiday Classic.
Vinemont led 12-11 after a quarter, but the Wildcats (10-5) sprinted to a 33-18 advantage at intermission. The Cats were up 51-26 at the final rest stop.
Darrel Jackson scored 12 of his 18 points in the first half for Guntersville.
Both Justin Staten and Matt Bass scored nine, Brandyn Hawkins seven, Russell Leak six and Jesse Yost and Malcolm Moore five apiece.
Chandler Litchford added three and both Jason Havis and Thomas Finley two.
The Wildcats made 14-of-17 free throws.
On Tuesday night, Guntersville lost to Oneonta 50-44 in the quarterfinals.
The Cats will play either Fort Payne or Weaver today in the seventh-place game at 4 p.m. or the fifth-place game at 5:30.
