Shelters open amid flooding

11:15 a.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for west central DeKalb County, including the communities of Chigger Hill, Lakeview, Fyffe, Guest and Shiloh. Radar indicated a possible tornado about 12 miles northeast of Albertville. The warning continues until 11:30 a.m.

11:10 a.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled the tornado warning for Marshall and DeKalb counties.

10:50 a.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for southeastern Marshall County and southwestern DeKalb County. Doppler radar at 10:43 indicated a storm capable of producing a tornado seven miles north of Albertville. The storm was moving to the northeast. Locations in the path of the storm include Whiton, Chigger Hill, Lakeview, Peek’s Corner, Fyffe, Albertville, Painter and Hopewell.

10:15 a.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for central Marshall County. At 10:12 a.m., weather service radar indicated a storm capable of producing a tornado in the Hyatt area. Locations in the path of the storm include Mountain View, Guntersville, Columbus City and Grant.

Storm shelters have been opened in several Marshall County communities.

They include the basement of the Albertville Board of Education building on West Main Street, the Arab Senior Center, Boaz First Baptist Church, the shelter near Douglas Town Hall, the shelter behind the District 2 shop in Grant, the community shelter in the Mount Pleasant community, the shelter behind Union Grove Town Hall, the basement of the Union Grove post office and the community shelter on Whitesville Church Road.

Flooding has been reported on some Marshall County roads, including Summerville Road and Forest Grove Road.

Old Jordan Road near the bridge, and Gene Brown Road, have been closed.

Butler Mill Road and Mill Road in the county’s 2nd District will be closed until flood waters subside.

Mount View Road, Mount Olive Church Road and Midfield Road were closed briefly due to flooding but have since reopened.

A tornado watch is in effect for northeast Alabama until 6 p.m.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Marshall County until 11:15 a.m.

A flood warning is in effect along the Paint Rock River until further notice.

A flash flood watch is in effect for Marshall and DeKalb counties until tonight.
