The head coaches in Marshall County selected 35 players to the 2009 All-Marshall County football team.
Leading the squad is overall most valuable player Drew Phillips, a Boaz senior.
Phillips — a three-time all-county selection — was chosen the county’s overall MVP for the second year in a row.
Corey Cahill, a Guntersville senior, was selected offensive MVP.
Boaz senior Chase Williams won defensive MVP honors for the second straight season.
Both Williams and Cahill are two-time all-county picks.
Guntersville’s Phil Isom claimed the coach of the year award.
The Wildcats led the team with eight selections, followed by DAR with six.
Albertville, Boaz and Douglas each put five players on the squad. Arab had four selections and Brindlee Mountain two.
Phillips rushed for 5,575 yards in his career, a school record and the 19th best total in AHSAA history.
He finished with 881 carries, the third-most in state history.
Phillips also ranks first on the BHS career list for rushing yards per game (142.9), rushing touchdowns (36), total touchdowns (42) and points scored (254).
Phillips ran for 1,889 yards on 316 carries this season. He scored 18 total ÿtouchdowns and compiled 2,413 all-purpose yards.
Cahill was a touchdown-producer for the Wildcats as a rusher, passer and receiver.
Cahill rushed 81 times for 437 yards and nine touchdowns and caught 28 passes for 448 yards and six scores.
He completed 2-of-3 passes for 67 yards, with both completions going for touchdowns.
Cahill returned 12 punts for 205 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he made five interceptions, returning two of them for scores.
He tied the Guntersville record by scoring five touchdowns in a 33-0 win over Fairview in week eight of the season.
Williams established a Boaz single-game record with 27 tackles in a 28-7 triumph over Scottsboro in week four of the season.
Williams finished the year with 128 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, nine sacks, 10 hurries, one caused fumble, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups.
He returned a fumble for a touchdown against Albertville.
Isom guided the Wildcats to their 10th postseason appearance in his 11 seasons as their head coach.
Guntersville finished 9-3. The Cats won the first region championship in school history. They fell to North Jackson 16-14 in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
GHS posted a 4-1 record against Marshall County rivals, including beating Albertville for the sixth year in a row to take a 45-44-6 lead in the all-time series.
