Luther Pierce "Pete" Thomas
Luther Pierce “Pete” Thomas, 93, of Boaz, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at Shepherd’s Cove – Hospice of Marshall County.
Services were Wednesday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at McRae Funeral Home with Brother Herbert Smith and Brother Jamie Perigo officiating. Brother Larry Cochran and Sidney Gilliland provided the eulogies. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas was born in Alabama on Nov. 16, 1915, to Atha Nacious and Zelma Ruth Starnes Thomas. He was a retired automobile dealer and known by scores as the “Old Mountain Man.”
Survivors include his wife, Zona Thomas, of Boaz; daughter and son-in-law, Amelia and Ken Gillilan, of Boaz, grandchildren, Heath and Terri Gillilan, Sidney and Jill Gillilan, and Kenya and David Norris; great-grandchildren, Jordan Gillilan, Hunter Gillilan, Mahettie Gillilan and Tiffin Gillilan; brothers, Charles Thomas, of Boaz, Joe Ed Thomas, of South Carolina and Wayne Thomas, of Georgia; sisters, Rebecca Rogers, of Boaz, Sarah Edmondson, of Georgia, and Mollie Edmondson, of Geraldine.
Pallbearers were Terry Edmondson, Joe Thomas, Roger Rowan, Tony Warren, Jimmy Brown and Denny Charles Broadwell.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Kilpatrick and employees of Kilpatrick Chevrolet, and members of the Gideon Sunday School Class of Boaz First Baptist Church.
