Lattie Goss Stamps

Lattie Goss Stamps, 91, of Boaz, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Shepherd’s Cove – Hospice of Marshall County.

Services will be Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at Boaz Carr Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 2 p.m.

Mrs. Stamps was a member of First Baptist Church of Boaz for 70 years. She served as a Sunday School teacher until age 75, and also served her church as Building Committee Chairman and Co-Chairman, on the Pastoral Search Committee, a WMU member and as Sunday School Department Superintendent.

She taught school as an English teacher for 37 years, 35 of them at Boaz High School. She was sponsor of the Boaz High senior class, Beta club sponsor, school newspaper sponsor, and served as director of the DAR oratorical contest and the senior play.

Most of all, she enjoyed watching the Boaz Pirates football and basketball teams play.

She graduated from DeKalb County High School and Howard College, now Samford University.

Survivors include her son, Leonard Lee Stamps, of Marietta, Ga., Daughter-in-law, Martha B. Stamps; step-grandson, James M. Weaver, of Montgomery; sister, Wilda Goss, of Boaz; niece, Gladys Roberson, of Altoona; nephews, Bill and Leslie Stamps, of Madison; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Stamps, and her parents, Virgel Lee and Bertha Gregory Goss.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Head, James Roberson, Bruce Sanford, James Malone, Fred Buchanan and Glennis Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church.

The family will accept flowers or appreciate donations to your home church’s building fund or mission fund.
