Crash kills driver of SUV on 431

Published November 29, 2008

An early morning wreck Friday at the intersection of U.S. 431 South and Kilpatrick Road in Albertville left the driver of a sport-utility vehicle dead and the driver of an 18-wheeler injured.

Marshall County Coroner Marlon Killion pronounced Juan Martinez, 33, of 307 Lexington Road, Albertville, dead at the scene at about 7 a.m.

Killion said Martinez died of multiple blunt-force traumas.

According to police, the dense fog later blanketing the area was not a factor at the time of the 6 a.m. accident.

Albertville police said the driver of the 18-wheeler was Dennis Snow, 34, of Albertville.

The truck belongs to Jenkins Trucking in Guntersville.

According to police, Snow said Martinez’s vehicle, traveling east on Kilpatrick Road, crossed the southbound lane of U.S. 431 and the median into the northbound lane directly in front of him without any apparent attempt to stop.

Snow, unable to stop his truck in time, struck the Martinez vehicle.

Martinez’s vehicle was severely damaged, and Snow’s vehicle proceeded onto the ditch before coming to an abrupt halt after hitting the driveway culvert at Repo Land’s Mobile Home sales lot.
