Etowah County authorities arrested two suspects from Attalla in connection to the disappearance of two Gallant men.
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said authorities arrested Robert Wayne Kelley, 35, and Margie Morgan Kelley, 35.
“Robert has been charged with two counts of capital murder and Margie has been charged with one count of hindering prosecution,” Entrekin said.
Authorities believe pieces of burned bones discovered during a search around 191 Center Road in Attalla this week are the partial remains of James Bachelor, 38, and Rocky Morgan, 55.
“The remains will be sent for DNA testing to positively identify the remains,” Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Natalie Barton said. “It is believed that the victims were shot before their bodies were burned.”
The suspects have a family connection to the missing men.
Margie Morgan Kelley is the daughter of Rocky Morgan. Robert Wayne Kelley is Margie’s estranged husband. Bachelor is Rocky Morgan’s nephew, making Bachelor a cousin to Margie Morgan Kelley.
Bachelor is listed as a registered sex offender, but authorities said no evidence suggests the status had any connection to the deaths.
Authorities mentioned Bachelor was a registered sex offender because he was missing and not where he was registered to live.
Authorities said Bachelor and Morgan were last seen on Dec. 2 at 2455 Rocky Hollow Road.
A family member reported the men missing Dec. 11, and authorities said Bachelor may be in the Guntersville area fishing with Morgan on Dec. 12.
