Bulldogs subdue Tigers, 33-12

Published October 31, 2009

VALLEY HEAD — Geraldine’s Ty Rooks contributed two of the Bulldogs’ first three unanswered touchdowns en route to a 33-12 win over Valley Head on Thursday night.

“I thought we played hard tonight,” Geraldine head coach Tim Arnold said. “It was one of our better games of the year. We tackled better tonight than we have been doing.”

Rooks’ first touchdown came with 9:16 left in the second quarter on a 64-yard run to put Geraldine (6-4) up 6-0.

Rooks then caught a 72-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Anthony Wright with 3:12 left in the second to extend the Bulldogs’ lead to 12-0.

Geraldine’s Dustyn Cooper then got in the scoring mix with 7:02 left in the third on a 35-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 19-0.

Valley Head (4-6) answered with a 2-yard touchdown run by fullback Hunter Stone to narrow the lead to 19-6 with 3:26 left in the third.

Rooks scored his third touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run with 1:08 left in the third to push Geraldine’s advantage to 26-6.

Midway through the fourth period, Cooper broke free on what appeared to be a 59-yard touchdown run, but he fumbled on the 1-yard line.

Jared Morgan scooped up the ball and finished off the play to get credit for the touchdown that extended Geraldine’s margin to 33-6.

Valley Head picked up the last touchdown of the night on a 33-yard pass from Levi Hulgan to Greg Blansit.

Rooks rushed 11 times for 82 yards to surpass 1,000 yards for the season.

Geraldine travels to Clay County on Nov. 6 in the first round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
