Endorsements made in last days of races

Published July 10, 2010

Three former staff members in north Alabama with ex-gubernatorial candidate Tim James’ campaign have endorsed Bradley Byrne in the July 13 runoff election.

Former Marshall County Chair Will Ainsworth is among the Byrne supporters.

“I am excited about joining other former Tim James supporters across north Alabama in support of Bradley Byrne,” said Ainsworth.

Ainsworth joins former Madison County Chair Stan McDonald and former Limestone County Chairwoman Missy McDonald.

McDonald has joined Mike Ball as co-Chair of Byrne’s Madison County team.

“It is crucial for our Republican Party to unify and fight back against Democrats,” said Byrne in a release. “Having Stan, Will and Missy join my campaign greatly helps this effort.”

Each of the supporters cited Byrne’s promise to fight Montgomery corruption as a key reason to support him.

“Bradley will take on special interests in this state and will not back down,” said Ainsworth.

Missy McDonald added, “Bradley has proved to be effective in fighting public corruption and working effectively for a pro-business Alabama.”

Stan McDonald said Byrne best addresses how to fight public corruption.

“Bradley is also loyal to his campaign staff and would never show a lack of character by firing his staff,” said Ainsworth of Byrne, citing opponent Robert Bentley’s removal of Albertville native David Ferguson as his campaign manager after the primary election.

“I am confident in Bradley Byrne’s pro-life and pro-family beliefs that we support as conservatives,” said Missy McDonald.

Stan McDonald added, “Bradley Bynre is the most consistent Republican choice.”

Dale Peterson endorses McMillen

Dale Peterson was known for his tough-talking, colorful advertisements during the Agricultural Commissioner’s primary race. Now, the former candidate has endorsed John McMillen in Tuesday’s runoff election.

Peterson’s latest ad endorsing McMillen ends with Peterson firing a rifle at someone trying to steal a campaign sign of McMillen’s.

“I don’t have one bad word to say about John,” said Peterson.

Peterson said he supports McMillen due to his business background and experience with managing people.

“John’s been in management for over 20 years,” said Peterson. “(Dorman Grace) has only sat on boards and claims that as management experience.

“We are essentially hiring a CEO for a $5 billion a year company.”

McMillen is the best candidate, according to Peterson, for many reasons, but he said the key reason is simple.

“He knows how to get the job done.”
