3 arrested in shoplifting incident

Published December 15, 2009

Albertville arrested three suspects, including two young teens, in two separate shoplifting incidents involving BB guns Friday at Kmart.

The teens tried to steal a BB gun, according to police Chief Benny Womack.

Authorities charged the 13- and 14-year-old boys with third-degree shoplifting, Womack said. Police also charged the 14-year-old with obstructing governmental operations.

Loss prevention officers from Kmart reported observing the pair trying to conceal the gun and BBs.

• In a separate incident, Albertville police arrested Jerry Dwayne Meeks Jr., 31, of 102 Meeks Drive, Grant, on a charge of third-degree shoplifting.

Meeks allegedly stole a BB gun, BBs, a few small iPod cases and compressed air cartridges from Kmart on Friday night.

• In another report, Albertville police are investigating the theft of $3,100 in Little Debbie snacks from a storage unit on Baltimore Avenue over the weekend.
