Crash kills local woman

Published May 12, 2009

A single-vehicle accident on Interstate 59 near Reece City resulted in the death of an Attalla woman.

Daphne Cheryl Brooks, 33, of 787 Bryant Drive, Attalla, was killed when the 2001 Ford Mustang driven by her 15-year-old daughter Nikki Jean Bowen wrecked at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, one mile south of the Alabama 211 exit in Reece City.

Bowen was injured in the accident and transported to UAB Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition in intensive care Monday.

State troopers investigating the accident listed Brooks as an Albertville resident, but a family member said she lived at the Attalla address. Troopers are continuing their investigation.
