County rivals enter Oneonta Holiday Classic

The varsity boys squads from Boaz, Douglas and Guntersville will compete in the 46th Oneonta Holiday Classic, which tips off Monday.

The champion in the 16-team field will be crowned Thursday.

Douglas will play Fort Payne on Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the opening round.

Guntersville will take on Vinemont on Monday at 4 p.m., and Boaz will face Luverne on Monday night at 7.

Monday’s other first-round matchups are Alexandria–Brindlee Mountain, 10 a.m.; Cullman–Saks, 1 p.m.; Locust Fork–Weaver, 2:30 p.m.; Oneonta–Glencoe, 5:30 p.m.; and Cleveland–Dallas County, 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s losers bracket schedule is:

10 a.m. — Alexandria–Brindlee Mountain loser vs. Douglas–Fort Payne loser

11:30 a.m. — Cullman–Saks loser vs. Locust Fork–Weaver loser

1 p.m. — Guntersville–Vinemont loser vs. Oneonta–Glencoe loser

2:30 p.m. — Boaz-Luverne loser vs. Cleveland–Dallas County loser

Tuesday’s quarterfinal schedule is:

4 p.m. — Alexandria–Brindlee Mountain winner vs. Douglas–Fort Payne winner

5:30 p.m. — Cullman–Saks winner vs. Locust Fork–Weaver winner

7 p.m. — Guntersville–Vinemont winner vs. Oneonta–Glencoe winner

8:30 p.m. — Boaz–Luverne winner vs. Cleveland–Dallas County winner

Boaz and Guntersville could meet in Wednesday’s 7 o’clock semifinal. Douglas is in the other bracket. If the Eagles reach the semifinals, they will play Wednesday at 8:30.

On Thursday, the third-place game is at 7 and the championship at 8:30.
