Published November 12, 2009

A Guntersville truck driver was seriously injured Monday in the collision of two semis on Interstate 57 in southern Illinois.

Illinois State Police at the Effingham, Ill., post report Wayne Lamp, 45, of Guntersville, ran off I-57 and struck a parked semi operated by Moustapha Fofana, 24, of Memphis, Tenn. The accident occurred about three miles south of Farina and was reported to Illinois State Police at 2:38 p.m. Monday. Farina is located between the cities of Effingham and Mount Vernon.

Both drivers were seriously injured. Lamp was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, Ill. for treatment of major injuries. Fofana was taken first to the hospital in Salem, Ill., and later transferred to a hospital in St. Louis.

Police report Fofana’s parked rig had its flashers on and Lamp was cited for improper lane usage.
