A Boaz man is recovering after losing control of his Camaro and slamming into a culvert and utility pole in the Mountainboro community on Monday.
David M. Pitts, 34, of 861 Mizell Circle, Boaz, was treated and released from Gadsden Regional Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The accident happened at Mountain Drive and Lake Circle, less than a half-mile from U.S. Highway 431.
“Mr. Pitts was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro and, according to him, swerved to miss a large dog in the roadway,” said Boaz police Chief Terry Davis, citing reports.
“He lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway and began to slide, striking a culvert and then a utility pole.”
The Mountainboro Volunteer Fire Department assisted the Boaz Police Department with traffic control and treatment of injuries on the scene before Pitts was transported by A-Med Ambulance Service to Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Davis said.
Authorities remained on the scene to conduct traffic control for another seven hours before opening up the road, so Alabama Power and other crews could repair damage to the utility lines and reset the power pole, Davis said.
