Master Sgt. Mitchell Jones

Master Sgt. Mitchell Jones, 62, of Geraldine, and formerly of Attalla, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009.

Services were Monday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel, in Attalla, with the Brother Jimmie Umphrey and Sister Lennie Jo Carroll officiating. Burial followed at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Mitchell Jones was born and raised in Etowah County. He served briefly in the U.S. Army before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for over 16 years before proudly retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Mr. Jones then began a career in Gadsden as a car salesman. He worked with many local dealerships, including Crown. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors, hiking and with his beloved grandson, Trey.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his father, Otis; mother, Hazel; son, Larry; brother, James; and by a nephew, Tony.

Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, June Body Jones; daughter, Karen Jones (Paul Kirby); sister, Linda Davidson; brothers, Charles (Ann) Jones, Mack (Margie) Jones and Gerald (Peggy) Jones; and grandson, Trey Jones.

He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the United States Air Force detail.

The family offers special thanks to the wonderful staff at Shepherd’s Cove – Hospice of Marshall County, including nurses Sabrina, Tiffany and Barbara.
