The Christmas shopping season begins Friday with the opening of the Marshall County Craft Club’s 15th annual show in Boaz.
Shelves of handcrafted items await the holiday season in the former Mikasa Outlet, at the Boaz Plaza Outlet Center.
Craft club members were busy Tuesday putting out their wares. Working with holiday music playing in the background, volunteers stocked shelves with Christmas and Thanksgiving items, centerpieces, paintings, glassware, toys and apparel.
“We’re looking forward to a good show,” said David Shockley, president of the craft club.
The show is open daily starting Friday through Dec. 23. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 12:30 to 5 p.m.
Various unique, antique and “one-of-a-kind” crafts are available, including whimsical quilted Santa figures to hand-painted glasses to monogrammed hair bows and tiny dog clothes.
New crafters were added this year to fill out the larger space, Shockley said. Many booths are filled by longtime crafters offering their popular items, such as trees and centerpieces adorned with antique kitchen gadgets, jewelry and crocheted items. Newcomers offer wooden boats and other crafts.
Shoppers are urged to return at various times throughout the holiday season as crafters replenish the goods during the show as supplies dwindle.
Portions of all proceeds are donated to various local children’s charities, Shockley said.
